A driver is stuck in a traffic jam going into downtown Ottawa. Nothing is moving north or south. Suddenly a man knocks on his window.
The driver rolls down his window and asks, “What happened? What’s the hold-up?”
“Terrorists have kidnapped Michael Ignatieff, Gilles Duceppe, Elizabeth May, Prime Minister Harper and Jack Layton. They are asking for a ten million dollar ransom… Otherwise, they are going to douse them with gasoline and set them on fire. We are going from car to car, taking up a collection.”
The driver asks, “On average, how much is everyone giving?”
“About a litre…”
Ba da boom!
All kidding aside, we Canadians are fortunate to have suffrage unlike many countries that have recently fought for or are currently fighting for democray like Tunisia, Egypt, Libya, Zimbabwe and Bahrain to name a few. As most of you know, a federal election has been called for Monday May 2, 2011. The lawn signs are starting to pop up everywhere I go now.
